The Spartans responded to the big save in the 51st minute as their pressure deep in the Guilford end forced a Quaker miscue at the top of the 18-yard box. Junior Brian Graham (Bowie, Md./Bowie) was the recipient of the misclear and calmly drilled a shot into the side netting for the 1-0 UNCG lead.
The Spartans continued to press in the attacking end of the field and their effort paid dividends just 4:06 later as they took a 2-0 lead in the 55th minute of play. Freshman Noah Deangelo (Burlington, N.C./Bishop McGuiness) sent a ball across the top of the 18-yard box where it found an open Christopher Reingen (Dusseldorf, Germany/Univ. of Dusseldorf) who ripped a shot past Guilford goalkeeper Mark Mandalinic for the two-goal cushion.
UNCG almost took a 3-0 lead in the 84th minute as Dustin Gamradt (Kiel, Germany/Hebbelschule) was pulled down in the box awarding the Spartans a penalty kick. Deangelo stepped forward and cracked a shot off the goal post and then he deposited the rebound in the back of the net. The goal was called off as Deangelo cannot be the first player to touch the ball after the penalty kick.
Deangelo led all players with six shots on the night while Gamradt added four shots for the Spartans. Moffitt picked up the victory as he posted three saves and combined with redshirt sophomore Davis Griffin (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road) for the clean slate.
UNCG returns to action Saturday night as it hosts Catawba (N.C.) in an exhibition game. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
