Miller leads Spartans to easy win at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C.—Freshman Austin Miller scored a pair of goals and added an assist to help lead UNCG to a 4-0 Southern Conference win over Wofford, Saturday at Snyder Field.

The win helped the Spartans (5-6-1 overall, 2-1-1 SoCon) snap a three-match winless streak and get back in the conference race. UNCG matched a season high with four goals against the Terriers (4-8-1, 0-4-0).

Brian Graham got the Spartans on the board in the 14th minute, scoring his first goal of the season off an assist by Miller, giving UNCG a 1-0 lead.

Miller scored the first of his two goals in the 24th minute on a header from six yards out, taking a cross from Oddur Gudmundsson to make it a 2-0 game.

Miller gave UNCG some breathing room in the 77th minute when he knocked a shot into the upper left corner of the net from six yards out to make it 3-0. The goal was unassisted.

UNCG leading scorer Hakan Ilhan hammered in the final nail when he scored his sixth goal of the season, scoring off a saved shot attempt by Graham in the 80th minute. Graham was credited with an assist, his second of the year.

Spartans goalkeeper Peyton Ford tallied his second shutout in two matches and his fourth of the year by making two saves. Ford now has 13 career shutouts, one behind current assistant coach Jay Benfield for second in school history.

The Spartans return to the pitch when they host Longwood, 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19 at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
