Bonilla, Ford named NSCAA Scholar All-Region

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – UNCG men's soccer student-athletes Michael Bonilla and Peyton Ford have earned spots on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-South Region teams, the NSCAA announced recently.

Bonilla earned a place on the first team, while Ford took a spot on the second team.

Bonilla, a midfielder from Lawrenceville, Ga., boasts a 3.4 grade point average in marketing. The redshirt senior started 14 matches for the Spartans this season, scoring four points on a goal and two assists. Bonilla's goal was the game-winner over Georgia Southern on Oct. 10, while he assisted on goals in wins over Charlotte and Gardner-Webb. He contributed to an offense that led the SoCon in points, goals and assists and a defense that was second in the league in shutouts. Bonilla earned a spot on the Academic All-SoCon Team.

Ford, a redshirt sophomore from Jamestown, N.C., owns a 4.0 grade point average in political science. Ford started all 22 matches in goal for the Spartans, turning in a 1.13 goals against average, six shutouts and 76 saves. He was fifth in the SoCon in GAA, third in saves and tied for second in shutouts. Ford was the SoCon Player of the Week on Nov. 2 after not allowing a goal in shutout wins over Appalachian State and Furman. He also earned a spot on the Academic All-SoCon Team.

Bonilla and Ford were part of a UNCG squad that went 12-6-4 overall and 4-1-2 in the SoCon, winning the league's regular-season and tournament titles. The Spartans took an 11-match unbeaten streak into the NCAA tournament before falling in the first round at Georgetown.
