UNCG hosts Appalachian State, celebrates Senior Night on Tuesday

+ UNCG returns to league play to take on Appalachian State in a key SoCon match for both squads. The Mountaineers are one point behind College of Charleston after Furman knocked off the Cougars over the weekend. The Spartans are in fifth place with eight points and are looking for a win to get back in the hunt for home field in the quarterfinal round.

 

+ UNCG will honor four seniors prior to Tuesday night's game. Michael Bonilla, Robbie Copeland, Matt Strine and Chris Denuna will be honored prior to their final regular season match at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

 

+ UNCG leads the all-time series, 18-8, but has lost four of the last five meetings to the Mountaineers.

 

+ Appalachian State has not fared well away from home this season. The Mountaineers are 1-5-1 on the road, 2-5-1 away /neutral combined. ASU is a perfect 5-0 at home, however, where it knocked off Elon this past weekend to move into second place in the league standings. Bruno Mbamala scored the game-winning with less than two minutes left in the second overtime period.

 

+ ASU has been a slow starting squad this season. The Mountaineers have scored 12 of their 15 goals after halftime this season.

 

+ UNCG is coming off a 4-1 win over Gardner-Webb on Friday night. The Spartans got two goals and an assist from sophomore Hakan Ilhan in the win. The victory gave UNCG a five-match unbeaten streak (3-0-2). Brian Graham added a goal and an assist to give him a 10-point week (4g, 2a).

 

+ Sean Dreybus leads ASU in scoring this season with 11 points (4g, 3a). Steven Sassano, who assisted on the game-winner against Elon, is second with six points (2g, 2a).  The Mountaineers have started three different goalkeepers this season. Drake Branson was the starter against Elon. He has a 0.89 GAA and a .750 save percentage in 508 minutes of action this season.

 

+ Sophomore Hakan Ilhan leads the Spartans in scoring with 18 points (6g, 6a). Freshman Brian Graham's huge week last week moved him up to 15 points on the year (6g, 6a). Sophomore Peyton Ford is UNCG's goalkeeper, logging a 1.33 GAA and .724 save percentage in 1330 minutes of action.

 

+ The Spartans travel to Furman in the SoCon finale for both squads on Saturday night. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
