UNCG's Chad Janda earns SoCon weekly honor
SPARTANBURG, SC - UNC Greensboro junior goalkeeper Chad Janda was selected the Southern Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday in voting of the league's Sports Information Directors for his outstanding play in the Spartans' two wins last week.
Janda, a junior from Raleigh, NC, came in to replace injured Chad Dickerson to lead the Spartans to a pair of wins with clutch saves in the final seconds of both matches. Janda stopped a shot from point blank range off the foot of Campbell's Richard Jata with 30 seconds to play and then corralled the loose ball to preserve a 2-1 win last Wednesday. He had come in the game at halftime in place of the injured Dickerson.
Janda followed that up with a leaping save against UNC Wilmington, punching a shot up over the crossbar with just eight seconds to play to preserve a 1-0 shutout win over the Seahawks on Saturday night. This season, Janda has logged 315 minutes in goal and has a 1.43 GAA in four matches.
UNCG (3-3-1) is unbeaten in its last four matches (3-0-1) and will face Charlotte (5-1-0) on the road Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7 pm.
