CHARLOTTE, NC – Chris Salvaggione scored the only goal of the match with 15:07 to play as Charlotte topped UNC Greensboro, 1-0, in men's soccer action at Transamerica Field on Wednesday night.
The 49ers, who made their first Top 25 appearance in 10 years earlier this month and are ranked No. 27 in the College Soccer News Top 30 this week, moved to 6-1-0 on the season. UNCG had a four-game unbeaten streak snapped in falling to 3-4-1 on the year. Charlotte snapped a three-game losing skid against the Spartans.
The Spartans kept Charlotte's high-scoring duo of Salvaggione and Andres Cuero subdued for most of the night. However, Salvaggione got loose off a feed from Jason Hawes in the 75th minute to break a scoreless tie and tally his seventh goal in seven matches this season.
Chad Janda made seven saves for UNCG. Charlotte held a 17-7 advantage in shots, including 12-3 in the second half, and 5-0 in corner kicks.
UNCG, which has had seven of its eight matches decided by one goal or less, will return to action Saturday night. The Spartans will host Brown at UNCG Soccer Stadium in the Homecoming match. Game time is set for 7 pm.
