ST. LOUIS, MO – UNC Greensboro senior midfielder Scott Jones earned his third consecutive NSCAA All-American selection when he was named to the squad’s third team.
Jones, a native of Dallas, TX, is a four-time first-team All-Southern Conference, the first Spartan to ever earn first-team all-conference all four years. He finished second on the squad in total points with 23 after tallying nine assists and scoring seven goals for the Spartans. He led the team with five game-winners, two of which came in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Jones ended his career at UNCG fifth all-time in assists with 41. Along with 25 career goals, Jones tallied 91 points in his career.
The Spartans finished 16-8-1 this season and captured both the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles. UNCG also advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s round of 16 for the third straight year. Jones scored the game-winning goals for UNCG in dramatic fashion in both of UNCG’s NCAA Tournament wins, scoring in the final 30 seconds of regulation time in the Spartans’ win over Virginia Tech and then scoring in double overtime as UNCG knocked off sixth-seeded West Virginia in Morgantown.
The honorees will be invited to the NSCAA All-American Luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, as part of the 2007 NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.
Jones, who was the only third-time selection among the three teams picked this season, will also be in Indianapolis that weekend for MLS Super Draft festivities. An invitee to the MLS Combine in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on January 4-8, Jones could be among the selections in the MLS draft on January 12, which will be held at the NSCAA Convention.
