GREENSBORO, NC - Despite a 2-1 week last week with the loss coming to a nationally ranked opponent, UNC Greensboro fell out of two more national polls this week but still clings to a No. 29 ranking in the College Soccer News poll.
UNCG was ranked in three of the four polls last week, failing to make the NSCAA Top 25. However, UNCG’s loss to UAB on Friday night at the UNCG Men’s Soccer Classic cost the Spartans (4-2-0) their positions in the Soccer America and Soccer Times polls. College Soccer News dropped UNCG from No. 17 to No. 29 this week.
Interestingly enough, Elon was the apparent recipient of some of UNCG’s previous status. The Phoenix defeated UAB last Sunday at the UNCG Men’s Soccer Classic to knock the Blazers out of the polls and put the Phoenix in. Elon is No. 22 in Soccer America and No. 24 in the NSCAA poll. UAB, meanwhile, fell out of the College Soccer News poll and fell to No. 23 in Soccer America.
SMU is the new consensus No. 1 team this week, receiving the top spot in all four polls after Maryland lost last weekend at Clemson, 2-1.
UNCG returns to action this weekend with a chance to move back up in the polls. The Spartans will face William & Mary on Friday afternoon in Norfolk, VA, before taking on Old Dominion on Sunday. The Monarchs are ranked in three of the four polls and are listed as high as No. 13.
