UNCG moves up in men's soccer national rankings

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro moved up four spots to No. 16 in the Soccer Times Top 25 poll, which was released late Monday night.

In polls released earlier in the day, the Spartans had moved up five spots in both Soccer America and College Soccer News. UNCG moved up to No. 7 in Soccer America and climbed from No. 18 to No. 13 in College Soccer News.

The Spartans, who defeated Jacksonville and Stetson over the weekend, were ranked No. 20 in Soccer Times’ preseason poll. The Soccer Times poll is voted on by a panel of 16 head coaches from around the country.

Several Top 10 teams were knocked off over the weekend including Akron, Notre Dame, South Florida and Connecticut, which caused a pretty big shake-up from the pre-season rankings.

The polls still differ at the top. Soccer America was the only poll to not pick Maryland, the defending national champions, as the preseason No. 1. North Carolina was and still is atop the Soccer America poll after a pair of wins last week. Maryland, which also won twice last weekend, still sits atop the College Soccer News and Soccer Times polls.

The NSCAA Coaches’ Top 25 does not begin regular season rankings until Sept. 5.

UNCG hosts Campbell on Wednesday night at 7 pm at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
