Jay Benfield named SoCon October Athlete of the Month for men's soccer

SPARTANBURG, SC – The Southern Conference has announced this week the Athletes of the Month for October. UNC Greensboro senior goalkeeper Jay Benfield of the men's soccer team was tabbed for his outstanding performance last month.

Benfield, a native of Lewisville, NC, allowed just one goal in 676 minutes of action between the pipes in October. Benfield held a 0.13 goals against average and a .964 save percentage over eight matches. The only goal that he allowed came in a 1-0 loss to nationally-ranked Wake Forest. The Spartan net minder recorded a 7-0-1 record in the month, with four clean sheets.

One athlete is chosen from each fall sport: football (offensive and defensive), men's and women's soccer, volleyball and men's and women's golf.
