Benfield named SoCon Men's Soccer Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC - UNC Greensboro goalkeeper Jay Benfield has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday for his outstanding play in UNCG’s two wins last week.

Benfield, a senior from Lewisville, NC, posted a 0.00 GAA in 199:57 minutes of action in two contests last week. Benfield made several crucial saves to keep Furman off the scoreboard last Wednesday in a 1-0 double-overtime win over the Paladins before once again keeping a clean slate in a 1-0 win over Big South foe Coastal Carolina last Saturday.

Benfield has not allowed a goal since the Spartans’ game with North Carolina on September 27, a span of 349:57.

UNCG returns to action Wednesday night when it hits the road to take on backyard-rival High Point beginning at 7 pm.
