Patterson named SoCon Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro junior forward Randi Patterson was named the Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday for his outstanding performance last weekend.

Patterson, a native of Hackensack, NJ who is a candidate for the Hermann Award, had two goals and an assist in UNCG’s two wins last weekend at the UAB Classic. Named the UAB Classic’s Most Valuable Player, Patterson recorded his sixth goal of the season in UNCG’s 3-1 win over nationally-ranked UAB. The loss was UAB’s first in the UAB Classic since 2002. Patterson followed that up with a goal and an assist in UNCG’s 3-0 win over Birmingham Southern on Sunday. His goal set the tone for the match, coming just 39 seconds into the contest.

He was also named to College Soccer News’ Team of the Week this week.

For the season, Patterson already has 15 points in UNCG’s first six games. The 2004 Southern Conference Player of the Year and a four-time Player of the Week honoree last year, Patterson has seven goals and one assist this season. He now has 37 goals for his career, which is tied for 10th all time at UNCG and tied for fourth most in the school’s Division I era. He also has 85 points in his career, closing in on becoming the 13th player in school history to record 100 points.

UNCG (4-2) will host William & Mary on Saturday at 7 pm at UNCG Soccer Stadium. The game is part of Alumni Reunion Weekend and the University’s FallFest.
