Three Spartans honored by College Soccer News
GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro juniors Scott Jones and Randi Patterson have been named to College Soccer News’ All-American squads as second team selections and Jokull Elisabetarson has been named a second-team Freshman All-American.
Jones, a redshirt junior from Dallas, TX, earned first-team All-American honors from the NSCAA last month. As a midfielder, he led the Spartans and the Southern Conference in assists with 14 and was second on the team in points with 24. Jones is a three-time All-Southern Conference selection and the 2003 SoCon Freshman of the Year.
Patterson, a junior from Hackensack, NJ, also earned second-team All-American honors from the NSCAA last month as a forward. He led the team in scoring with 44 points on 18 goals and eight assists. A semifinalist for the Hermann Award, Patterson became the first two-time Southern Conference Player of the Year honoree in 20 years when he won it for the second straight season this past November.
Elisabetarson, a freshman from Iceland, recorded two goals during his rookie campaign and solidified the UNCG midfield this season, contributing to UNCG’s success on both ends of the pitch. Along with Patterson and Jones, Elisabetarson earned first-team All-SoCon honors this past season.
UNCG finished the season 16-6-1, winning both the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles, and advancing to the NCAA Tournament’s round of 16 for the second straight season.
