Men's Golf Heads To Pinehurst Intercollegiate
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's golf team returns to action at Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, which runs Sunday through Tuesday. The 54-hole tournament will be contested over three days at Pinehurst Resort. The first and third rounds will be played on Pinehurst's No. 6 course, while the middle round will be played on the famed No. 2 course that has hosted major championships.
The field for the tournament also includes Ball State, Belmont, Campbell, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Marshall, Miami University, Ohio, Old Dominion, Richmond, Toledo, VCU, Villanova, Winthrop and Xavier. Last season, the Spartans finished 11th overall with a 902 (308-302-292).
Sophomore Alex Ehlert (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) leads the way for the Spartans, returning to the event where he finished eighth overall last season. Ehlert fired a 3-over par 219 (75-74-70), including posting a 2-under par 70 score in the final round. Senior Robert Hoadley (Southern Pines, N.C./Union Pines) will be at the top of the Spartans' lineup this year as he is coming off a 39th place finish last time out at the WSU Snowman Getaway.
Freshman Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C./North Surry) owns the Spartans' top stroke average in 2012-13, boasting a 75.06. He finished 35th last time out in Arizona at the Snowman Getaway, including an even par 72 in the final round. Classmate Luke Haithcock (Burlington, N.C./Williams) is second on the team with a 75.78 stroke average and will be playing as an individual.
Senior Matt Younts (Stokesdale, N.C./Northwest Guilford) won the qualifying event and will be playing his third straight event of the year. Sophomore Roy Dixon (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury) is coming off his most consistent outing of the year, posting three rounds of 75 at the Snowman Getaway. Additionally, freshman Wilson Brown (Statesville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) will be playing as an individual.
