Men's Golf Captures Inaugural Carolina Cup Over High Point
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's golf team won the weather-shortened inaugural Carolina Cup match-play event Saturday over Triad rival High Point at the Grandover Resort. The event was trimmed to just one day due to winter weather in the area but the Spartans posted a 5-2 victory over the Panthers Saturday with snow falling on the final holes of play.
Sophomores Roy Dixon (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury) and Alex Ehlert (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) picked up full points for the Spartans as they posted 3-up victories over McKay Tye and L.J. Georgetti, respectively. Freshman Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C./North Surry) also notched a 3-up victory in match play defeating High Point's Logan McGuire.
Senior Robert Hoadley (Southern Pines, N.C./Union Pines) tallied a 2-up victory over Chase Wilson while freshman Luke Haithcock (Burlington, N.C./Williams) rounded out the Spartans' victories with a 1-up win over Tony Dillon.
Freshman Wilson Brown (Statesville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) and senior Matt Younts (Stokesdale, N.C./Northwest Guilford) each dropped a point in the match play event to round out the day's pairings.
