Jenkins has dominated the state junior golf circuit this year, posting a state-low 71.88 stroke average over 20 events in 2012. He holds the Wildwood Green course record for 18-holes as he fired an astounding 59 score in 2012. He was the top golfer in the state throughout the year, becoming the first player all-time to win both the North Carolina Junior Championship and the Dogwood State Junior Championship in the same season.
Jenkins' play in the Dogwood State Junior Championship was phenomenal, setting a new tournament scoring record with a 16-under par 197 (64-66-67). He topped the previous tournament record by eight shots, winning the event by nine strokes over his nearest competitor.
Jenkins posted back-to-back rounds of 66 to post a 132 in the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier in Raleigh, posting the lowest score in the country at a qualifying event. He finished one stroke out of medalist position at the 2012 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship with a 2-under par 142 (73-69), becoming one of just seven players to shoot under par during the event.
In August, he posted a 7-under par 137 in the North Carolina Amateur Match Play event earning medalist honors. Also, he won the Sandhill's Labor Day Tournament championship with an 8-under par 135 (64-71) and the Duke University Southeastern Junior Championship by shooting a final round 66.
Jenkins became the third youngest player to ever participate in the Nationwide Tour as he won a junior qualifier to earn a spot in the Nationwide Tour's Rex Open in Raleigh. He placed fourth at the Carolinas-Georgia Junior Championship in January while placing sixth out of 175 golfers at the 64th annual Donald Ross Junior held at Pinehurst.
Jenkins is a four-year letterwinner for Leesville Road High School and is a three-time recipient of the Tarheel Golf Foundation Player of the Year. He was a three-time All-Cap 8 Conference selection while earning All-State honors the past two years. He finished fourth in medal play during the 2011 North Carolina 4A State Championships.
Jenkins is the son of Bobby and Marjorie Jenkins. He has two sisters, Emily and Abby.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men's golf head coach Terrance Stewart announced the signing of Carter Jenkins (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road), the Carolina's Golf Association No. 1 player in the class of 2013 and the No. 2 golfer statewide, to a national letter of intent Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period. Jenkins is also ranked the No. 29 golfer in the nation for the 2013 class by Golfweek.
"Carter is a model student-athlete and has been dedicated to coming to UNCG for quite some time," Stewart said. "I first saw him play when he was 13 and to see him blossom into perhaps the best player in the country at his age, has been a privilege to watch. He will help the program continue its mission to capture the NCAA championship."
