Men's Golf Opens Season With 36-Holes In Day One Of Tar Heel Intercollegiate

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UNCG men's golf team opened the 2012-13 season on a beautiful Saturday afternoon posting a team score of 596 in two 18-hole rounds at the Finely Golf Club in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Spartans opened with a round one score of 13-over par 301 before following it up with a round two score of 7-over par 295.  

Freshman Luke Haithcock (Burlington, N.C./Williams) paced the Spartans as he sits tied for 19th place after his first 36 holes of his collegiate career at 1-over par. He opened his day firing a 1-over 73 as he posted three birdies and just two bogeys before recording a double bogey on the 18th hold to move over par. He followed that up with a similar outing in round two as he shot an even par 72, with three birdies and three bogeys in the solid outing.
 
Senior Robert Hoadley (Southern Pines, N.C./Union Pines) sits in a tie for 29th place as he posted a 3-over 147 (75-72). Headley recorded three birdies on the afternoon, including a pair in his even-par 72 second round output. Freshman Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C./North Surry) is in a tie for 55th place overall after posting a two-round score of 151 (75-76). Coalson started his UNCG career with a bang as he tallied an eagle on his third collegiate hole, firing a three on the par-5 third hole at 560 yards.
 
UNCG sits in a tie for 12th overall at 20-over 596, matching Maryland. Duke leads the event by eight strokes as the Blue Devils shot a 9-under 567. North Carolina State's Albin Choi is the individual leader after 36 holes as he fired a 7-under (66-71) for the day.
 
The final round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate will be held Sunday with the Spartans set to tee off between 8:25-9:01 a.m. Live stats will be available via Golf Stat with a link on www.uncgspartans.com.
