Men's Golf Opens Play At Tar Heel Intercollegiate
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's golf team opens the 2012-13 season this weekend taking part in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate Saturday and Sunday at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins Saturday with 36 holes before concluding Sunday with 18 holes.
UNCG, under the director of 12th-year head coach Terrance Stewart, returns four letterwinners from last year's team. Sophomore Alex Ehlert (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) played in a team-high 34 rounds last season and recorded a 74.91 stroke average, which is the top average among the four returners. Senior Robert Hoadley (Southern Pines, N.C./Union Pines) played in 31 rounds last year, including the individual title at the Wolfpack Invitational (Oct. 3-4) as he posted a three-round score of 209 (69-68-72).
Sophomore Roy Dixon (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury) returns after playing in 25 rounds, posting a 76.12 stroke average with a three-round low score of 220 (68-73-79) at the VCU Shootout. Rounding out the returners is senior Matt Younts (Stokesdale, N.C./Northwest Guilford) who played in five rounds last year.
The Spartans also welcome in four freshmen to the squad for 2012-13 in Wilson Brown (Statesville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day), Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C./North Surry), Luke Haithcock (Burlington, N.C./Williams) and William Thomas (Raleigh, N.C./Green Hope).
