Former Golfer Will Almand Caddies Back-To-Back Tour Victories
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former UNCG men's golfer Will Almand (Cary, N.C./Green Hope), who finished up his eligibility this spring, has caddied back-to-back victories for longtime friend Ben Kohles on the Web.com Professional Tour this month. Almand has been on the bag as Kohles has claimed victories in his first two career professional competitions, becoming the first player in tour history to make his first two professional starts victories.
Almand, a four-year letterwinner at UNCG, played in 25 total rounds as a senior finishing with a 75.64 stroke average and being named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll. He helped Kohles claim victory in his professional debut winning the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational in Columbus, Ohio (July 26-29) as he birdied two of his final three holes to force a playoff which he won on the 18th hole with a birdie.
Almand, a high school teammate of Kohles, continued on the bag this past weekend in Omaha, Neb., as they won the Cox Classic presented by Lexus of Omaha at Champions Run. Kohles shot a 9-under-par 62 in the final round to tally from two shots down to win by three strokes.
Almand and Kohles have secured a spot on the Web.com Tour the rest of the year and are in contention to join the PGA Tour next year as one of the top 25 money-winners this year. After just two weeks, Kohles is second on the list with winnings totaling $261,000. The duo continues play Aug. 9-12 in the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr. Pepper in Springfield, Mo.
