Men’s golf stumbles during Puerto Rico Classic second round

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico –UNCG men's golf team fired a second round 306 on Monday at Rio Mar Country Club, and dropped one place in the standings with one round remaining.

The Spartans own a two-round score of 602 (296-306) and are currently 12th in the 15-team field. Alabama (555) continues to lead the field, followed by Purdue (568), Clemson (569), Virginia Tech (575), and Georgia (577) in the team top five.

Georgia Tech's James White (-8) owns a two-stroke lead in the race for individual medalist honors.

After an outstanding first round on Sunday, UNCG's Andy Knox struggled Monday on his way to a 78. Knox leads the Spartans at 148 overall, good for a tie for 37th.

Junior Robert Hoadley continued his steady play, carding his second straight 75 and moving into a tie for 45th at 150 (75-75).  Will Almand shot 76 and is tied for 52nd at 151 (75-76), and Alex Ehlert is tied for 63rd at 155 (78-77). Colin Chapman was forced to withdraw from the second round.

The third and final round is set for an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
