Men’s golf finishes eighth at AutoTrader.com College Classic

DULUTH, Ga. — UNCG men's golf team fired a final round 298 and finished eighth at the Georgia State AutoTrader.com College Classic, which concluded play Tuesday at Berkeley Hills Country Club.

The Spartans finished the three-round tournament with an overall score of 893 (302-293-298) in the 12-team field, finishing well behind overall team champion North Florida (855). Chattanooga (857), East Carolina (870), Minnesota (872), and Georgia Southern and Georgia State (884) comprised the rest of the top five.

UNCG senior Colin Chapman led the Spartans by finishing tied for 19th at 221 (75-70-76). Freshman Alex Ehlert shot 71 on Tuesday and finished tournament play tied for 21st at 222 (74-77-71).

Junior Robert Hoadley finished in a four-way tie for 25th at 223 (74-71-78), while freshman Roy Dixon finished 63rd at 235 (79-77-79). Sophomore Andy Knox, who was forced to withdraw during Monday's first round after suffering a knee injury, shot 1-over par 73 on Tuesday. His overall score did not count in the standings.

Two Spartans played as individuals. Senior Will Almand tied for 42nd at 227 (76-74-77), and sophomore Alex Simmons tied for 44th at 228 (79-75-74).

The Spartans close out the fall portion of their 2011-12 schedule when they host the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate, Oct. 29-30 at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro.
