Hoadley takes medalist honors, Spartans second at Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. — Robert Hoadley fired a 1-over par 72 during the final round of play at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, earning individual medalist honors and helping UNCG to a second-place finish, Tuesday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

Hoadley shot 4-under par 209 (69-68-72) for a two-stroke victory. The win is the second of Hoadley's career and his first since winning at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate during his freshman year in 2010.

"Robert played very well," said UNCG head coach Terrence Stewart. "He's been playing well for a long time now and he was as steady as can be. (Assistant coach) Dr. Bob Christina walked with Robert for the entire tournament and they both did a fantastic job."

The Spartans shot 863 (295-281-287) and finished two strokes behind tournament champion Memphis (861). Louisiana-Lafayette (866), East Carolina (870) and Campbell (870) made up the rest of the top five teams.

"There were some really good teams in this field," said Stewart. "Our guys got off to a rough start today but stayed calm, didn't panic made and pars and birdies coming in. Any time you finish second in a tournament with four top 50 teams (26-Campbell, 27-East Carolina, 39-Memphis, 41 NC State) you feel pretty good about it."

Teammate Colin Chapman joined Hoadley in the top 10, finishing tied for 10th at 216 (73-74-69). Andy Knox finished 15th overall at 217 (78-66-73).

Alex Ehlert tied for 30th at 222 (76-73-73), while fellow freshman Roy Dixon tied for 61st at 229 (77-74-78).

Alex Simmons played as an individual for UNCG and finished tied for 49th at 226 (76-75-75).

The Spartans next participate in the Georgia State AutoTrader Collegiate, Oct. 17-18 in Duluth, Ga.
