Stamey misses cut at PGA Wyndham Championship
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Former UNCG golf standout Nathan Stamey wrapped up his PGA Tour debut by shooting a 2-over par 72 during second round action at the Wyndham Championship, Friday at Sedgefield Country Club. Stamey failed to make the cut (-3) after shooting 6-over in the first two rounds.
Stamey earned the right to appear at the Wyndham after winning the Monday qualifier at Forest Oaks Country Club.
Staring play on the 10th hole, Stamey's round got off to a wobbly start when he suffered a triple bogey on the par-4 11th. After three straight pars Stamey rebounded with a birdie on 15 and closed out his first nine holes with three straight pars, making the turn at 2-over par.
A birdie on number two moved Stamey to 1-under, but a bogey on the fifth put him back at two-over. Stamey finished his round and initial PGA Tour experience with four consecutive pars.
American Tommy Gainey (-12) holds a three stroke lead as tournament play heads into the weekend.
