Chapman falls in North Carolina Amateur Match Play final
BERMUDA RUN, N.C. – UNCG's Colin Chapman lost 3-and-1 in the finals of the North Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship, Sunday morning at Bermuda Run Country Club.
Harold Varner, a rising senior at East Carolina, defeated Chapman to become the first player to win the North Carolina Amateur Stroke and Match Play titles.
"We both probably played better earlier in the week," said Chapman. "I just did not make the putts I needed to today which would have put more pressure on Harold. Harold is a great guy and deserved the win."
Chapman, a rising senior, advanced to the finals by winning quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Saturday.
Chapman wasn't the only UNCG golfer to compete in the match play championship. Rising senior Will Almand and incoming freshman Alex Ehlert both advanced to the round of 16.
