WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Robert Hoadley, Andy Knox and Colin Chapman all shot 1-under-par 71s on Monday to lead the UNCG men's golf team to a second-place standing at the halfway point of the 24-team C&F Bank Men's Intercollegiate tournament.
The event, hosted by the College of William & Mary, concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday at the Woods Course at Kingsmill Resort.
Hoadley, a sophomore, and Knox, a freshman, both carded 37 on the front nine and 34 on the back. Chapman, a junior, recorded a 38 and 33 to arrive at his 71. They are among 11 players tied for seventh place and are four shots back of the leader, Chris Wellde of James Madison, whose Dukes own a six-stroke lead over the Spartans.
Chapman's round was his first under par since the second round of the Southern Conference championship a year ago. Hoadley's was his eighth of 2010-11 Knox broke par for the third time in his young career.
UNCG also got solid rounds from Will Almand (74) and Kyle Sonday (77) and is four shots clear of the third-place team, USC Upstate.
The Spartans' standing is their highest after any day of a tournament in 2010-11. They will seek the 17th title in the program's Division I history on Tuesday and their first since the Towson Fireline Invitational last spring.
