Almand leads four Spartans in top five at Hardees Collegiate

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Led by junior Will Almand's second-place finish, UNCG golfers past and present claimed four of the top five spots at the Hardees Collegiate Holiday Classic, a three-day event at the Perdido Bay Golf Club that concluded Thursday.

Almand shot a 213 over the course of the tournament, firing rounds of 71, 72 and 70 to finish three shots back of West Florida's Robbie Van Riper (69-71-70—210). Almand was followed by recent UNCG graduate Ryan Heisey in third, as the 2010 Southern Conference Championship runner-up and reigning North Carolina Amateur champion finished third with a 217 (74-71-72). Sophomore Justin Clement took fourth with a 218 (73-77-68), and his third-round 68 was the second-best round of the tournament. 2010 UNCG graduate Will Bowman, who had a share of the lead after a first-round 69, finished fifth with a score of 219 (69-78-72).

Redshirt junior Kyle Sonday finished just outside the top 10 in 11th place, turning in a 227 (77-70-80). Freshman Alex Simmons rounded out the UNCG contingent with a 236 (77-77-82) to finish in 22nd place.
