Chapman logs top-10 finish as UNCG places eighth at Gopher Invitational
WAYZATA, Minn. – UNCG's Colin Chapman shot a final-round 76 to record his third top-10 as a Spartan and lead UNCG to an eighth-place finish at The Gopher Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota at Spring Creek GC.
Chapman entered the day at even par and rounds of 73 and 71 on Sunday. He played both sided of the course in 38 to finish Monday's round at four-over par 76 and wind-up with a 54-hole score of 220. Last season, the junior from Franklin, N.C. had two top 10 finishes and four in the top 20.
Freshman Andrew Knox concluded a fairly successful debut, finishing tied for 13th. He shot a team-low 75 on Monday. He had a wild front nine with just one par. Starting on No. 17 in the shotgun format, Knox shot par on the first two holes. He then logged just one par in the next nine – scoring two birdied and six bogeys. However, he settled down late and knocked down a couple of birdies to finish at three-over for the day and 221 for the tournament.
LSU won the team title at 869. The Tigers, who had a 20-shot turnaround between rounds one and two on Sunday, stayed pretty hot and shot 287 on Monday to win by 11 shots over Kent State.
Kent State's John Hahn took individual medalist honors with a wire-to-wire victory. He closed out with a 71 on Monday to finish at 206 and win by six shots over Arkansas' Sebastian Cappelen.
UNCG returns to action on Sept. 27 when it begins play at the VCU Shootout in Richmond, Va.
