UNCG signs Andy Knox to men's golf NLI
GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro men's golf coach Terrance Stewart has signed Apex, N.C. product Andy Knox during the National Letter of Intent program's early signing period.
Knox is a three-time all-conference selection and the reigning conference player of the year as he begins his senior season at Apex High School. He is the second ranked junior in the Carolina Golf Association. This past summer, Knox won five out of the 20 junior tournaments he entered, including the Rex Hospital Junior which earned him a spot in the Rex Nationwide Tour event. He finished in the Top 10 in 16 of those 20 junior tournaments this past summer.
"Andy is everything that any college coach would want in a student-athlete," said Stewart. "That is a big reason why he was so highly-recruited. Andy will help UNCG win many championships during his career."
Knox is currently ranked No. 33 by Golfweek in the class of 2010. This past summer, he carded a round of 63 in winning the Joe Cheves Junior Invitational. He also won the North Carolina High School Invitational and the North Carolina Junior Championship in match play. He also qualified for the United States Junior at Trump National in Bedminster, N.J.
Knox, who is the recipient of the Joe Cheves Memorial Scholarship, marks the fourth signee in the last three years to be ranked in the Top 100 when entering UNCG. Robert Hoadley, Will Almand and Justin Clement were all ranked in the Top 100 when they signed with UNCG.
