SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Greensboro senior Ryan Heisey was named the Southern Conference's Men's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after helping the Spartans to their second tournament victory of the season.
It was the second time in the last three weeks a Spartan had won the conference's weekly honor. Robert Hoadley earned the award two weeks ago after winning the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
Heisey finished tied for third at the Fireline Towson Invitational with even-par 216 after shooting a final round 73. UNCG won the tournament as a team by six strokes over Kent State and 28 shots over third-place Campbell. The 216 was a season low for Heisey while his 69 in round two tied a career low.
The tournament victory marks the first time the Spartans have won two tournaments in a season since 1997-98, while Heisey's third-place finish was the best ever for the senior.
UNCG returns to action Saturday when it opens play at the Administaff ASU Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
