Rio Mar, Puerto Rico - UNC Greensboro's Colin Chapman fired a 33 on the back side to finish up at 69 and a tie for sixth place in the opening round of the Puerto Rico Classic on the River Course at Rio Mar CC hosted by Purdue University on Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans are 15th after an open round of 294 at Rio Mar. Oklahoma State is first at 275, followed by Texas at 277 and Clemson at 281.
Chapman went out in 36 and came through the back side in 33, tied for the fourth-best score on the back 9 on Sunday. Oklahoma State's Kevin Tway was among three golfers that shot 32 on the back side on Sunday. Tway went out on in 33 and finished with an opening round 65 to take the individual lead, two shots better than Texas' Cody Gribble.
Monday's second round gets underway at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start.
