PINEHURST, N.C. - Robert Hoadley stayed in contention and Colin Chapman got back in the race during UNC Greensboro's second round at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate sponsored by Gatorade on Saturday afternoon.
Hoadley's round of 72 left him one shot off the lead and in third place entering Sunday's final round. Chapman'd second round 69 pulled him up to tied for sixth place, four shots behind the lead. Virginia Tech's Mikey Moyers and Old Dominion's Sam Wall are tied for the lead at a 36-hole total of 141.
Hoadley, a Southern Pines, N.C. native playing near his home, overcame a double-bogey 7 on the par-5 No. 11 with five birdies in his round. If not for a bogey on No. 18, Hoadley might be sitting in a tie for the lead entering the final day.
Chapman, who has recorded back-to-back Top 10 finishes, birdied Nos. 17 and 18 to close out the day and pull himself into contention for the individual title. He played the back nine in 34 to finish the day at two-under par.
Penn State leads the team standings at 580, two shots better than Virginia Tech. UNCG is currently tied for fifth with SMU, sitting at 592.
Sunday's final round is slated for a shotgun start at 9 a.m. UNC Greensboro's groups will be playing with SMU and VCU and will begin on holes No. 4, 5, and 6.
