Heisey records career-best finish as UNCG finishes third at SoCon
FLORENCE, S.C. - UNC Greensboro's Ryan Heisey shot a final round 73 to finish in a tie for second with a tournament total of 212 as the Spartans finished third Tuesday at the 2010 Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship, played at the Country Club of South Carolina.
The Spartans finished in the Top 3 at the conference championship for just the second time since joining the SoCon. The only other time came with a second-place tie in 2004.
Heisey, a senior from New Bern, N.C., tied a career-best with his 54-hole total of 212 and recorded a season-best. His second place finish is the best of his career, bettering a third-place finish at the Fireline Towson Invitational earlier this season.
Will Bowman also logged a top-10 finish, shooting a final round 73 to finish tied for ninth.
UNCG's final round total of 297 gave them a tournament total of 867. Furman won the title with a score of 849, carding a 290 on Tuesday. Georgia Southern finished second with an 865.
Furman's Austin Reeves followed up yesterday's impressive 66 with a final round 70 to win by five shots over the trio of Heisey, Furman's Garland Ferrell and Elon's Jayson Judy.
