UNCG receives three men's golf commitments
GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro men’s golf coach Terrance Stewart has received three commitments during the National Letter of Intent program’s early signing period, including two players that are ranked in Golfweek’s Top 100.
The Spartans received commitments from North Carolina natives Robert Hoadley, Justin Clement and Matt Younts. Hoadley and Clement are ranked among the Top 100 players in the senior class nationally, according to Golfweek.
“I am very happy with the potential of this class,” said Stewart, who is in his eighth season as the Spartans’ coach. “They all will have an opportunity to compete for the starting lineup from the first day on campus. I know they can help us achieve our goals – starting with winning the Southern Conference. Above all, though, they are well-rounded student-athletes that will represent our program well.”
Younts, the brother of current UNCG golfer Drew Younts, is a three-time all-conference selection at Northwest Guilford. He has qualified for the North Carolina State 4A Tournament all three seasons thus far at Northwest and was a regional champion in 2007. He also won the Junior Tarheel in 2007 and was the State Big I runner-up and a national qualifier in 2008. He also played in the 2008 Cardinal Amateur Qualifier.
Clement is the No. 98 ranked player nationally in the senior class, according to Golfweek. He was the Carolinas Golf Association’s No. 1 ranked player in North Carolina this past July. He won the 2008 North Carolina Junior and the North South Junior titles. The West Davidson HS product won the North South at Pinehurst in a field of 100 players, shooting rounds of 69, 69 and 67. His nine-hole high school stroke average is 37.
Hoadley is No. 38 in Golfweek’s rankings and was as high as No. 14 this past summer. A product of Union Pines HS, he was the Carolinas Golf Association’s No. 1 player in North Carolina for nine of the past 16 months. He was the runner-up in the North Carolina Junior in 2006 and won the tournament in 2007. The Cape Fear Valley Conference Player of the Year the last two years, he won the regional and state titles in 2007.
The Spartans open the spring portion of their schedule Feb. 23 at the Rio Pinar Invitational in Orlando, FL.
