FRANKLIN, Tenn. – UNC Greensboro carded a second round 280, one of the 10 best rounds in program history, to move up to ninth place after two rounds at the Mason Rudolf Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament at Vanderbilt Legends Club.
Will Bowman finished his day with a 33 on the front side of
the
course to card a 69 on Saturday.
South Carolina also shot 280 and South Alabama shot 279 as the only
scores equal to or better than UNCG on the day. UNCG had four
golfers shoot par or under to key the big day. Will Bowman and Will
Almand both shots rounds of 69, while Darragh Coughlan and Drew
Younts both shot 71. Bowman went out in 33 and came back in with a
36 on the back 9. Almand went out in 34 and came back in 35. He had
six birdies and three bogeys on the day, compared to Bowman’s
four birdies and two bogeys.
South Carolina leads the team standing at 561, six shots better than South Alabama. UNCG is in a pack of teams in the middle of the standings, trailing Kennesaw State by five and Middle Tennessee State by two, while leading Eastern Michigan, Memphis and Purdue by one, and Western Carolina by five. UNCG's team score of 280 tied for the sixth-best score in a round all-time.
Kentucky’s Ben Fuqua leads the individual standings after a 65 on Saturday. His 36-hole total of 133 is one shot better than Middle Tennessee State’s Jason Millard, who also shot 65 on Saturday. Bowman is tied for 17th, 10 shots off the pace, but just two shots out of the Top 10.
UNCG will be in the first set of groups going off of No. 1 on Sunday beginning at 7:35 am local time.
