FLORENCE, S.C. – UNC Greensboro junior Will Bowman birdied five of his first nine holes on his way to a second round 68 and is tied for second entering Tuesday’s final round at the 73rd Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship, being played at the Country Club of South Carolina.
Bowman went out in 31 and came back in 37 to record the second lowest round of his career. Starting the day tied for 14th, Bowman is now just two shots off the lead, part of a four-way tie for second.
Georgia Southern’s Drew Lethern holds the lead after 36 holes at 138. The first round leader, Lethem followed Sunday’s 66 with an even-par 72 on Monday. He is two shots ahead of Bowman, Western Carolina’s Tanner Briele, Furman’s Matt Broome and Chattanooga’s Derek Rende. Three more golfers are just three shots back.
Chattanooga holds the team lead by four shots over Georgia Southern. The Mocs sit at 566 after 36 holes. Furman is third at 572. UNCG is in a log jam at the middle of the standings, sitting in seventh at 594. Five teams are within four shots of each other for fifth through ninth places entering Tuesday’s final round.
Tuesday’s final round gets under way with tee times off of Nos. 1 and 10 beginning at 8 am. UNCG’s groups will go off of No. 10 beginning at 8:40 am.
