UNCG opens season with 16th place finish at Inverness

TOLEDO, Ohio – UNC Greensboro’s men’s golf team shot a final round 315 to finish 16th at the Inverness Intercollegiate.

Nathan Stamey was the Spartans’ top golfer, finishing in 50th place. Stamey fired a final round 78 on Tuesday. Will Bowman carded the Spartans’ low round of the day, shooting a 77 to finish in a tie for 63rd place.

Jonas Blixt of Florida State and Ryan Brehm of Michigan State tied for the individual title. They both set a new tournament record for the lowest 54-hole score with a 210. Brehm carded a 73 on Tuesday, while Blixt shot a 75.

Florida State won the team title, carding a total of 862. The Seminoles, which recorded a tournament low round of 281 on Monday afternoon, topped Michigan State by six shots for the team title. Florida finished third in a field that finished nine of the Top 31 teams ranked by golf stat.

UNCG returns to action September 22 and 23 at the Wolfrun Intercollegiate in Zionsville, IN.
