Stamey 34th, Spartans 16th after two rounds at Inverness
TOLEDO, Ohio – UNC Greensboro recorded rounds of 306 and 310 on Monday to sit in 16th place after two rounds at the Inverness Intercollegiate hosted by University of Toledo.
Playing with nine teams ranked in the Top 31 in Golfstat’s team rankings, the Spartans were led by Nathan Stamey’s two-round total of 149. The senior from Canton, NC recorded rounds of 73 and 76 to sit seven-over par after 36 holes and in a tie for 34th place. He had five bogeys and three birdies in the opening round. He started the day with consecutive bogeys, and shot the rest of the first round at even par. He did the same thing to start the second round – record consecutive bogeys – but wasn’t able to recover the same way and settled for a 76 in the afternoon.
Florida State has the team lead at even-par 568. The Seminoles set a tournament record when they shot 281 in the second round, breaking a record that was four hours old after Michigan State shot 282 in the morning round. Michigan State sits three shots behind the Seminoles in second place. Louisville is third, 10 shots off the pace.
Florida State’s Jonas Blixt holds the individual lead with scores of 67 and 68 on Monday to sit at seven-under par. Michigan State’s Ryan Brehm is in second place, two shots behind.
Tuesday’s final round gets underway at 8:30 am with a shotgun start.
