Bare qualifies for PGA Wyndham Championship
GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro alumnus Andy Bare has qualified for the field of the PGA’s 2007 Wyndham Golf Championship at Forest Oaks CC just south of Greensboro.
Bare tied for first in Monday’s qualifier with a 65 to earn one of four qualifier spots into the tournament.
Bare graduated from UNCG in 2004, twice earning All-Southern Conference honors. The holder of UNCG’s record for a 54-hole score, Bare played the 2005 season on the New England Pro Golf Tour (formerly known at the Cleveland Golf Tour), playing in 10 events and finishing in the money in nine of them. He earned his first professional win at the Atlantic City Hilton Casino Celebrity Classic that June.
He has spent the last two seasons primarily playing on the Tar Heel Tour. Last year, he earned a spot in the 106th U.S. Open at Winged Foot GC. He did not make the cut in that event – his first appearance in a major tour event.
On Monday, Bare tied with William McGirt at seven-under 65 in the qualifier that was played at Pinewood CC. He had earned a spot by playing in the pre-qualifier last week. Monday, he had six birdies, an eagle and a bogey.
Thursday, he will play in the final morning pairing off of the first tee, pairing up with Parker McLachlin and Bryce Molder. The threesome is slated to tee it up at 9:06 am.
UNCG senior Nathan Stamey finished 12th in the qualifier, three shots shy of qualification with a 70. Another UNCG alumn, Jake Lowder, finished tied for 32nd.
Forest Oaks CC is the home course of the UNCG men’s golf team and is the site for the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate Championship.
