BROWNS SUMMIT, NC – Former UNC Greensboro men’s golfer J.D. Bass carded a 54-hole total of 215 to record a two-shot victory at the Bryan Amateur Championship over the weekend held at Bryan Park, home of the 2010 USGA Public Links Championship.
Bass shot rounds of 72, 69 and 74 to win by two shots of Bruce Woodall. It is the second time in three years that a Spartan has won the title. Nathan Stamey, who just graduated from UNCG and advanced to the NCAA West Regional as a senior, won the title in 2006.
A pair of current Spartans recorded Top 5 finishes in the tournament. John Isenhour was third at 218 (74-74-70), while Will Bowman, who led after the second round, finished fifth at 221 (70-70-81). One other current Spartan played in the event. Brad Cline finished in 12th place in the 43-person field with a three-round total of 228 (75-78-75).
