Stamey named SoCon Men's Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro senior Nathan Stamey was named the Southern Conference’s Men’s Golfer of the Week on Wednesday for his outstanding performance this past week.

Stamey, a product of Canton, NC, recorded a third-place finish at the Bank of America Intercollegiate on Tuesday as he recorded three straight sub-par rounds. Stamey carded rounds of 70, 71 and 70 to finish at 211 for the tournament. It was his first Top 5 finish this season and the fifth of his career.

His 54-hole total of 211 equaled the best of his career, which now spans 42 collegiate tournaments. It was his third straight Top 10 finish and his fifth in nine outings this season.  It was the first time that Stamey shot three sub-par rounds in a tournament since his very first collegiate outing in September 2004, when he won the Mid-Pines Intercollegiate.

Stamey, who earned SoCon weekly honors for the first time in his career, is eighth in the SoCon this season in scoring average, sitting at 72.92 strokes per round. That is best on the Spartan squad.

The Spartans return to action next Monday at the Palisades Collegiate in Charlotte, NC. That tournament is hosted by Charlotte, which is ranked No. 4 in the nation in the Golfstat rankings.
