Stamey superb again as Spartans finish seventh at Bank of America
MADISON, Miss. – Nathan Stamey’s third straight sub-par round gave him a third-place finish and helped UNC Greensboro to seventh place in the final team standings at the Bank of America Intercollegiate at Reunion Golf Club.
Chattanooga won the team title by four shots, carding a total of 852 to outlast LSU by four shots. The Spartans shot a final round total of 292 to move up in a pack of teams in the middle of the standings. The Spartans moved into seventh on the final day, three shots behind UAB and four behind Vanderbilt.
Starting on the backside, Stamey played his first nine holes at four-under 32 and was in contention for the title. But a bogey at No. 3 and consecutive bogeys on Nos. 6 and 7 proved costly. UAB’s Zach Sucher won the individual title with a final round 68, beating Mississippi’s Jonathan Randolph by two shots and Stamey by four. Chattanooga’s Jonathan Hodge was fourth, one shot behind Stamey.
The Spartans return to action next Monday at the Palisades Collegiate in Charlotte, NC.
