Bowman four shots back at Pinehurst, Spartans eighth entering final round
PINEHURST, N.C. – UNC Greensboro’s Will Bowman fired his second consecutive 74 to stay within four shots of the lead as the Spartans sit eighth after two rounds at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate presented by Gatorade.
Bowman, a native of Greensboro, NC, went out in 35. He began the day with birdie, bogey, birdie before settling in with 12 straight pars. However, he bogeyed No. 16 and then had a double-bogey on 18 to finish with a two-over 74 for the second straight day. He will begin Tuesday’s final round one of nine golfers within four strokes of the individual leader, Indiana’s Seth Brandon. Brandon carded a 75 on Monday after shooting 69 in the opening round.
Indiana stretched its large lead in the team standings. The Hoosiers began the day with a 17-shot lead and increased that to 24 over second place Eastern Kentucky at 602. UNCG is in eighth place at 610.
Tuesday’s final round begins with tee times off both Nos. 1 and 10 at 8 am. UNCG’s groups will begin at No. 1 tee starting at approximately 8:45.
