NEW LONDON, N.C. – For the seventh time in eight years, UNC Greensboro claimed the Carolina Cup title in its annual Ryder Cup-style event with neighboring High Point, winning 11-1/2 to 1/2 on Saturday at the Old North State Club.
UNCG won all eight individual matches and three of the four pairs matches. The remaining pairs match finished in a draw. Drew Younts had the most impressive win, defeating Andrew Mespelt 5 and 4.
"The team played very well and it's a good start to our spring.," said UNCG coach Terrance Stewart. "With continued hard work and attention to detail, I expect us to continue our progress in three weeks at the Cleveland Golf Collegiate. This was a complete team effort with every player winning their individual matches, I am very proud of them."
UNCG will next play at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken SC on March 10 and 11.
