UNCG men's golf signs four to NLIs

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro men’s golf coach Terrance Stewart has announced the signing of four high school student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for their enrollment at the university beginning in the fall of 2007.

The Spartans commitments all come from within the state of North Carolina. UNCG will welcome Hickory, NC native John Isenhour, Cary, NC product Kyle Sonday, Thomasville, NC native Brad Cline and Clemmons, NC product Josh Nichols beginning next fall.

“All four student-athletes are an excellent fit for our program,” said Stewart. “They are all very good students with excellent skills on the course, as well. Most of all, they are great people to be around and will help us achieve the goals we set forth for our program.”

Isenhour won the 2006 AJGA Footjoy Qualifier at Forest Oaks, UNCG’s home course. He is a three-time all-conference selection at Hickory HS and is ranked as the sixth-best senior by the Carolinas Golf Association. He also qualified for the 2006 Trusted Choice National Big I.

Cline is a product of East Davidson HS where he has earned all-conference, all-county and team Most Valuable Player each of the last three years. He is an honor student at East Davidson with several academic awards to his credit.

Sonday is the sixth-ranked senior in North Carolina according to Golfweek. He shot a tournament record 66 at the Keith Hills High School Kickoff Classic. A three-time all-conference selection at Green Hope HS, he helped Green Hope to the 2006 Class 4A State Championship.

Nichols, a West Forsyth HS product, finished eighth in the NCHSAA state tournament last year. He won the Piedmont Conference Tournament in 2004 and 2006 and was the conference’s Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006. A three-time all-conference selection, he also was the runner-up playing in the NCHSAA regional tournament for West Forsyth.
