Red hot third round leads Spartans to victory at Sam Hall Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – UNC Greensboro shot a blistering six-under par on Tuesday to rally from a four-shot deficit and coast to a five-shot win at the 2006 Sam Hall Intercollegiate.

The Spartans set a school-record with a 54-hole total of 845 and narrowly missed a school-mark for best team round at 278. Nick Baker finished tied for fourth at 209 after firing a final round 67, one off of his career best. His fourth place finish also tied the best of his career, equaling his at the 2003-04 Winthrop Waterford Invitational. J.D. Bass finished tied for 10th with an even-par score of 213.

The tournament victory was the 14th in the program’s history and the first sincem ironically, the Winthrop Waterford Invitational in the 2003-04 season. South Florida’s Justin Fetcho won the individual title with a score of 205 for a two-shot victory over Jacksonville State’s Daniel Willett.

The Sam Hall Invitational was the final match on UNCG’s fall slate. UNCG returns to action on February 17 when it faces High Point in the Carolina Cup match play competition.
