DURHAM, N.C. – J.D. Bass fired rounds of 73 and 74 to lead UNC Greensboro to an 11th place standing after two rounds at the Coca-Cola Duke Men’s Golf Classic at Duke GC.
Bass sits in 26th place at three-over par. It was an adventurous way to get to three-over for Bass. He had three double-bogies and four bogies in his two rounds on Sunday, but also carded eight birdies.
Freshman Drew Younts was sitting high on the leaderboard after the first round on Sunday, firing a round of 71. However, he managed only a 78 in his second round and is in a tie for 37th place along with teammate Nathan Stamey at 149.
Coastal Carolina’s Dustin Johnson is the individual leader after firing rounds of 69 and 68 on Sunday. North Carolina’s David Holzworth is one shot back. Coastal Carolina and North Carolina are also 1-2 in the team standings, with Coastal Carolina carding a two-round score of 570 to hold a four shot lead over the Tar Heels. Coastal Carolina is ranked No. 21 in the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches' Poll, while North Carolina is No. 16. Duke, which is ranked No. 13 in last week's poll, is in fifth place.
UNCG is sitting in 11th place as a team with a score of 599. Only 12 shots separate seventh through 12th places in the team standings, the same spread as the distance between first through sixth places.
The final rounds gets underway at 8 am Monday. UNCG players are slated to tee-off beginning at 9:21 am.
