J.D. Bass to join staff as asst. men's golf coach
GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro men’s golf coach Terrance Stewart announced Thursday that J.D. Bass has been appointed an assistant coach for the program in the 2007-08 season.
Bass, a native of Fairview, NC, completed his collegiate playing career at UNCG this past spring. He won the Southern Conference’s Individual Championship in April at the Country Club of South Carolina, carding a final round 68 to rally from a three-shot deficit to win the tournament. He joined Jay Stone (Dixie Conference, 1968-69), Joe Caldeira (Dixie Conference, 1978-79) and Michael Way (1995-96, Big South) as UNCG players who have won individual conference titles.
“J.D. had an outstanding four years with us and I really felt like he could be a great benefit to our guys,” said Stewart. “I am happy he has accepted a post with our program and think it could be a great stepping stone for him as he finishes up his undergraduate course work.”
Bass, an All-SoCon first-team member in 2006-07 and a second team member in 2004-05, finished in the Top 20 in seven of his last eight tournaments at UNCG. Bass had eight Top 20 finishes in the 2006-07 season and 18 for his career. The win at the SoCon Championship was the third of his collegiate career.
He also shot a 54-hole career-low in April when he tallied a 210 at the Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, AZ. Three times he shot a career-low 68 this season, the last coming at the SoCon Championship.
Bass has a 3.00 grade point average and is slated to finish his degree in hospitality and tourism management within the next academic year.
