Bass three shots back, Spartans in seventh after two rounds at SoCon

FLORENCE, S.C. – J.D. Bass stayed within striking distance Monday, sitting three shots off of the pace after two rounds at the 2007 Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship.

The Spartans shot 298 as a team and still sit in seventh place after 36 holes. Chattanooga leads the team standings. The Mocs shot a blistering 280 on Monday with four golfers carding sub-par rounds. They lead by seven shots over second place Georgia Southern and 15 over third place duo Elon and Wofford.

Bass, a senior from Fairview, NC, shot a 73 on Monday to sit in a tie for eighth place. However, he is only three shots behind co-leaders Jonathan Hodge of Chattanooga and Alex Knoll of Davidson. They are tied with two-round totals of 142. Western Carolina’s Andres Cuenca is one shot behind them, but a total of 11 golfers are within three shots of the lead entering Tuesday’s final round, including Bass.

The final round will get underway Tuesday at 8:30 am with tee times of Nos. 1 and 10.
