HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – J.D. Bass fired a team-best final round 70 and Nathan Stamey and Drew Younts both recorded Top 10 finishes to lead UNC Greensboro to a second place finish at the Mission Inn Collegiate Invite on Sunday afternoon.
Stamey finished second, one shot behind Marquette’s Mike Van Sickle. Stamey carded a final round 73 to finish the tournament at three-under 213. It was the best finish for the junior from Canton, NC since winning the Mid Pines Intercollegiate to open the 2004-05 season and his collegiate career. Earlier this season, Stamey finished third at the Memphis Intercollegiate.
Younts, who set a school record and course record with a 63 in Saturday’s opening round, shot a 77 on Sunday to finish tied for eighth place. His previous best finish was a tie for 24th at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in UNCG’s last tournament back in late October. This was just the sixth career collegiate tournament for Younts.
Bass’ 70 pulled him up to 18th place on Sunday, giving him his fourth Top 20 finish in six outings this season.
UNCG will return to action next Sunday when it begins play at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
