Younts' record 63 lifts UNCG to second after two rounds at Mission Inn

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Freshman Drew Younts set a school record and broke the course record with an opening round 63 to help UNC Greensboro to a second place standing after two rounds at the Mission Inn Collegiate Invite hosted by Xavier University.

Younts, a native of Stokesdale, NC and product of Northwest Guilford HS, fired an opening round 63 to break a UNCG record and the El Campeon course record. The previous school mark was set by Jason Martin in 1989 at the Stetson Intercollegiate. He broke the record of the 80-year-old course by two shots.

He sits second after two rounds after cooling off in the afternoon, shooting a 76. He is one shot behind Marquette’s Mike Van Sickle, who carded rounds of 70 and 68 on Saturday.

UNCG’s Nathan Stamey is also in the running for the individual title, sitting in a tie for fourth place. Stamey, a junior from Canton, NC, recorded rounds of 71 and 69 on Saturday.

The Spartans are in second place as a team with a total of 580, 13 shots behind Louisville, which has three players in the Top 10, individually. Eastern Michigan and Marquette are tied for third, one shot behind UNCG.

The third and final round gets underway on Sunday with a shotgun start at 8 am.
